FileZilla

If you do not have a copy you can download it here.

Install FileZilla if necessary and run it.

1) You will need your FTP username and password in order to access your webspace. If you do not have this information contact us to get it.

Enter your website's address, username and password into the appropriate fields at the top of the FileZilla window (as shown in the image below).

2) Once you have clicked the Quickconnect button, you should be connected if you supplied the correct credentials in the last step.

Filezilla

3) Open the mainwebsite_html folder under your remote site view. This contains the main contents of your website. Now on the Local site view, browse to where the files are that you want to upload.

4) Drag and drop the files from your local site to the remote site. You can also do this with groups of files by selecting the first file in the group, holding down Shift, and selecting the last file, then dragging them all into the Remote Site pane.

When you initiate a file transfer, you will see one entry appear in the "Queue", shown in the bottom pane of the window, for each file being transferred. As files are uploaded they will disappear from this list, so when it is empty the upload has finished.

(Note that the larger the files you are transferring are, the longer it will take to upload them - and the longer it will take other people to download them later. You will probably also have limited webspace for these files - so try to keep your them down to a reasonable size by compression if necessary.)

5) You should be able to view the files by typing the link http://www.yoursite.co.nz/thefilename.doc
Replace the yoursite.co.nz with your website's domain name and enter the name and extension of your file to replace thefilename.doc.

6) If you send someone this link to the file, they should be able to click on it and download the file.
