The Smart CMS WYSIWYG Editor

Editing content in Smart CMS is as easy as editing in a word processor like MS Word, and you don't need any knowledge of HTML.  The editor does not require you to install anything to run it, and it natively supports the most common web browsers, including the following:

  • Internet Explorer 5.5+
  • Firefox 1.0+
  • Mozilla 1.3+
  • Netscape 7.1+

It is important to note however, that the editor does work a bit differently in different browsers, so if you are having trouble with something in one browser, try a different one.  We recommend Internet Explorer as the best browser to use for the editor, however if you prefer another it should work almost as well.

Editing Content in Smart CMS

To edit content, first make sure you are logged in under your admin account, then browse to the area of your website that you want to edit.  You will notice there are small Edit Buttons placed at areas you can edit.  Click on these to edit the corresponding content with the WYSIWYG editor.

To gain the most out of editing your content, and ensuring well formed documents, we recommend reading through the following subsections on the Smart CMS Editor:

Essential tips for working with the Smart CMS Editor:

  • As with all computer work it is essential to save your progress every now and again so that if something goes wrong you won't have to start from scratch again.
  • If you make a mistake when doing some type of formatting and you don't know how to reverse it, you may want to press cancel to start again.  Note that this will discard all changes you have made since the last save.
  • It is possible to copy full documents from Microsoft Word, however we recommend doing this with caution, because you may not be able to get the style of formatting to fit in with the website, and some of the formatting may not be editable in the Smart CMS editor.  Its often the best case to use the "Paste as Plain Text" button, which will remove all formatting from MS Word and revert to the default website style.
