Editor Functions

Our WYSIWYG editor has many functions to use making editing your content a breeze.  There's both basic functions which will work almost exactly the same as an editor like Word, and some more advanced functionality specific to web-based content.

Depending on the version of the Smart CMS you may have different functionality in your editor.  Click Here to see screenshots of the editor toolbar in the Lite, Express and Pro versions.  The editor toolbar can be customised upon request, which may especially be needed for the pro version to cut down on unnecessary buttons.

Basic Functions: Works the same as in Microsoft Word or a similar editor:

Bold Cut Subscript Text
Italics Copy Superscript Text
Underline Paste Normal Strike-through Text
Left Align Text

Numbered List Undo Last Action
Center Align Text Bulleted List Redo Last Action
Right Align Text Decrease Indent Text Colour
Justify Text Increase Indent Highlight Colour
Find Replace

Advanced Functions: Read through the guidelines for using each of these functions

Custom Style: Contains a list of some custom styles to apply to text and images.  There may be styles here that are custom made for the style of your website.

Font Format: Mainly useful for selecting a heading style to use, or changing a heading back to normal text. This should be used in preference to changing the text size directly to keep consistency.
Font-Size: Directly changes the size of the font to one of a few pre-selected values.  For header text preferably use the Font-Format option instead of Font-size.
Remove Formatting: Removes most formatting from the selected text.  Removes custom styles, font-sizes, bold, italics, underline, strike-through, superscript and subscript.  Useful to restart formatting from scratch if you make a mistake.
Insert Special Character: Brings up a dialog box for you to select a special character. Similar to inserting a symbol in Microsoft word.
Paste as Plain Text: Paste's to the display in plain text only.  It is highly recommended to use this when copying from Microsoft Word, because the formatting that MS Word uses is non standard and may be difficult to edit later with the Smart CMS editor.
Select All: Selects all of your editable data.  Useful if you want to copy your whole document or if you want to delete everything and start from scratch.
Preview: Click to preview the current data in a seperate page.
Print: Opens a dialog to print the data being edited.
SpellCheck: Runs a spellcheck on your document.  This feature only runs in Internet Explorer.  It also requires that you download and install a plugin to use.
Edit Source: This lets you edit the html source code of the data.  If you are given a piece of html code to insert somewhere you must use this button to edit the source first before pasting it.  This function provides the ultimate in editing flexibility, however is recommended for advanced users only.
Link: Select the text or image you wish to have as a link before pressing the button. Read More details on the Inserting Links page.
Unlink: Removes all links from the the selected piece of text or image.
Anchor: Inserts a named anchor at the current location, which you can use to link to.  Useful if you have a lot of text on one page and you want to avoid too much scrolling.
Insert Image: See the Inserting Images page for detailed information on this.
Insert Table: See the Working with Tables section for details on Inserting and editing tables.

Horizontal Rule: Inserts a basic Horizontal Rule at the current location

Templates: Uses a predefined template as a starting point for your document.  Note that this will delete all your current data in the editor, so make sure to copy it beforehand if you need to.  There are some standard templates to use here, however there may be some custom made templates specific to your website.
